Roger Sparrow
15 May 1935 - 17 April 2013

Roger Penstone Sparrow was born in Bristol on 16th May 1935, educated at Bristol Grammar School, leaving in 1951 to join Sun Insurance which became the Royal and Sun Alliance.

In 1953 he was conscripted into the Royal Air Force for his National Service, after which he went back into Insurance.  As his success developed, he was transferred to the Swansea Office and was fortunate to meet Brenda who became his wife in August 1962; they married in Sketty Parish Church in Wales.

Further promotion led to them being transferred to London and then in 1972 as Manager in Blackpool, resulting in the family coming to live here.

Roger and Brenda have a loving family of two daughters and four grand-daughters and are most proud of their two sons-in-law.

Roger had a great knowledge of Blackpool Football Club, loved sport, particularly following Rugby and Formula One.

He was a member of St.Annes Parish Church from 1972; on the PCC from 1982-1996; Parish Rooms Treasurer; founder member of the Wednesday Men; a Church Sidesman for 34 years and was part of the Church counting team. He was also Treasurer of St. Annes Operatic Society and Treasurer of The Men’s Fellowship.

Last year Roger and Brenda celebrated their Golden Wedding in St. Annes Parish Church, bursting with pride, having all their loving family around them.

Roger was one of the longer serving members of The Probus Club of St. Annes-on-the-Sea joining in 1985.

Roger will be remembered by all who knew him as a perfect Gentleman, sincere and honest with an infectious laugh.
