Dr John Kent
1939 - Dec 2020

We are very sorry to have to report the death of Dr John Kent, on Tuesday 22 December 2020 at the age of 91.  He had been a close friend of Keith and Mavis Barlow for many years.  Keith writes:

John and his wife Kate were introduced to me and Mavis by Bill Hodson and we have been personal friends since then.  I phoned them just before Christmas to see how things were and a very tearful Kate answered the phone and asked if I had heard the news?  She went on to tell me that John had been admitted to hospital in Southampton with pneumonia.

Dr John Kent had been a member since 2008 or 2009 and, as far as I know, only missed last year due to him being away from St. Annes on enrolment day.  He used to ask me to enrol for him but, due to the fact he had had a couple of falls, didn’t come to St Annes at that time in 2019, so his membership had actually lapsed.

He was a GP in Highcliffe, Southampton before he retired, but his wife was from St. Annes and had lots of connections here, hence a flat in St. Annes.  John was also a member of Green Drive Golf Club in St. Annes.  He was very keen on Big Bands, ‘The Rat Pack’ and a member of the George Formby Society.  A patron of Lowther Pavilion, he spent quite a lot of time supporting their shows when he was over here.
