The Probus Club of
President:  John Regan

John Boyle

We are extremely sad to report the death of John Boyle, who passed away on March 14th 2020.  He had been poorly with cancer and had an operation last year.

John joined Probus Club St Anneís in 2016 and was a regular and keen member.  He was born in Blackpool, a retired Primary School Teacher living in Ansdell.

He will be sadly missed by all his friends at Probus Club St Annes-on-the-Sea.

Apologies to those who have tried to access the Probus website recently, only to find it missing!† Iíve been transferring it to a new provider but, unfortunately, it wasnít the straightforward process Iíd expected.† But now, after a lot of struggling and head-scratching, itís back with us and Iíve just updated it with the latest photographs from the Presidentís Get-Together in early March: click on EVENTS and then select the top item from the list.

Cliff Elliott - April 2020

A very warm welcome to the  St Annes-on-the-Sea Probus Club!  We were formed in 1971 and expect to celebrate our 50th birthday (Coronavirus permitting!) on 25th February 2021.

.  We are a member of the National Group of Probus Clubs and have around a hundred members.  Our main aim is to foster friendship between our members and to entertain and educate, with a weekly presentation of about 45 minutes in length.

We meet every Thursday morning from early October until the end of March at the Memorial Hall Community Centre, next to the YMCA, at 92 St Albans Road, St Annes on Sea (otherwise known as Lytham St Annes).  The door is open from 10:00am for refreshments and general chat and the meeting takes place from 10:30 until about 11:30am.  Freshly made tea, coffee and drinking chocolate (including biscuits) is sold in aid of club funds for 50p a mug.

Every third Thursday, after the meeting, we invite members to the adjacent YMCA cafe to have lunch; we continue this get-together on third Thursdays during the summer recess to keep in touch.

The Club organises a number of social events throughout the year, the most popular one of which is the annual Christmas Lunch.

Our members mostly live in the St Annes area and come from a wide range of backgrounds, ranging from science and engineering to sales, education, law, insurance and government.  Many of their interests include working for the community and supporting local activities.

The annual subscription is just £15 and the Christmas Lunch is usually around £25 per person.  Members may bring their Ladies or other guests with them to the Lunch.
